About
Dr. Munya Rwakonda
PYSCHIATRIC MENTAL HEALTH NURSE PRACTITIONER
Welcome to my website!
My name is Dr. Munya Rwakonda, and I am dedicated to providing comprehensive mental health care. My journey in the healthcare field began as a Registered Nurse (RN), where I gained extensive experience working in various hospital settings, long-term care facilities, and group homes. During this time, I encountered patients with diverse mental health conditions, which deepened my commitment to this field.
The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted significant challenges in mental health care, including increased mental health issues and limited access to providers. In response, I pursued a Post-Master’s Certificate in Mental Health, graduating in 2022. By May 2023, I began working in private practice as a Nurse Practitioner, specializing in child and adolescent mental health, while also treating adults.
I am passionate about increasing access to mental health services and reducing stigma across all ethnicities. During my training, I worked alongside psychiatrists in the psychiatric emergency department and the involuntary unit at University Hospital. Additionally, I precepted at Hunterdon Medical Center in Flemington, NJ, in both private practice and inpatient settings for children and adolescents. My experience extends to long-term injections and post-treatment monitoring at a private practice in East Stroudsburg. I also facilitated marriage, group, family, and individual therapy with a therapist.
I believe that mental health is as critical as managing diabetes and hypertension, requiring attentive and knowledgeable providers. My approach is holistic, considering nutrition, exercise, and medications. I am empathetic, a good listener, and possess a great sense of humor. I strive to provide accessible care through both telehealth and in-person sessions, promoting an environment where mental health can be discussed openly and without stigma.
Persistence, consistency, and resilience are key to becoming the best version of oneself. Mental health is not a destination but a journey, and I am here to support you every step of the way.
